The Christian Media Forum (CMF) has mourned the death of Abubakar Abdullahi, the Imam of Nghar village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
In a statement, CMF described the late cleric as a “champion of peace and unity” and a model for interfaith coexistence. The forum said his passing represents a significant loss not only to his family but to Nigeria as a whole, particularly at a time when the country needs voices advocating unity and reconciliation.
Abubakar Abdullahi, who died on Thursday night at Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, had been hospitalised for ten days after being diagnosed with a heart condition. His death was confirmed by his son, Saleh Abubakar.
The Imam was widely respected for his bravery, notably sheltering 262 Christians during violent attacks in his village. CMF urged other religious leaders to emulate his example in promoting peace and harmony across faiths.
“We stand with his family and the Muslim Ummah in this trying time and pray that the good Lord rest his soul,” the statement said.
The forum commended the Imam’s selflessness and contributions to national unity, calling his legacy “an inspiration for Nigerians to work towards peaceful coexistence.”
