The Lagos State Government has kicked off the 2026 electronic registration and payment exercise for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), marking a major step towards fully digitising the process for both public and private junior secondary schools across the state.
Coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB), the online exercise will run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026, eliminating the need for physical visits to the board’s office by school administrators.
“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has commenced the 2026 BECE e-registration and payment exercise, which will run from January 26 to March 27, 2026,” the state government announced in a statement posted on its official X platform on Tuesday.
The initiative is designed to boost efficiency, transparency, and accountability in examination administration while aligning with the state’s broader agenda to leverage technology in education management.
Registrar of the LSEB, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, urged schools to use their newly issued School Codes for all registration processes.
Public junior secondary schools are required to download the Offline Data Capturing Application from bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete and submit their registrations.
Approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission, and continuing education centres must access the board’s payment portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to process payments, register candidates, and generate login details.
Orunsolu outlined the registration fees: approved private schools and public continuing education centres are to pay N10,000 per candidate, while private schools with special permission and private continuing education centres will pay N15,000 per candidate.
He also called on schools with candidates who have special needs – including visual impairments or albinism – to notify the board in advance to facilitate appropriate arrangements during the examination.
The board cautioned that late registration would attract penalties and promised to communicate any additional guidelines to schools through their respective zonal officers to ensure strict compliance.
The shift to a fully digital platform is expected to reduce administrative bottlenecks, minimise errors, and provide a more seamless experience for thousands of schools preparing candidates for the BECE in Lagos State.
