NIGERIA, CALABAR – The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has issued detailed guidelines on registration, orientation and matriculation for newly admitted Year One and Direct Entry students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Registration Framework for New Entrants
The directive, contained in Circular No. 503 dated May 16, 2026, outlines compulsory administrative and financial steps all fresh students must complete before formal recognition by the university.
According to the circular, the management stated that full payment of prescribed school fees remains the first condition for registration and eligibility for academic participation in the institution.
Students are required to pay their complete sessional school fees online, print the payment receipt, and present it to their respective faculty finance officers for confirmation and documentation.
University authorities explained that no student would be processed further in the registration chain without verifiable evidence of complete school fees payment for the academic session.
Beyond tuition, management directed students to pay an additional ₦4,500 into the university’s community finance bank account, covering multiple statutory student-related associations.
The ₦4,500 payment, according to the breakdown, includes ₦1,000 for the Students’ Union Government, ₦1,000 for faculty associations, ₦1,500 for departmental associations, and ₦1,000 for NACRISS and local government area associations.
The circular emphasized that these payments are mandatory and non-negotiable, forming part of the institutional requirements for community participation and student representation within the university system.
After payments, students are instructed to report to their faculty offices with clearly specified documents for screening, verification, and clearance by designated officers.
Documents required include original and photocopies of school fees and acceptance fees receipts, ensuring all financial obligations are fully settled before academic engagement.
Students must also present Level Certificates or Statements of Result, with the directive requiring originals alongside four photocopies for official record keeping.
Evidence of age, either through a birth certificate or sworn declaration of age, was listed as a compulsory requirement for all newly admitted candidates.
Management further instructed students to submit certificates of local government and state of origin, reinforcing institutional and regulatory documentation standards.
The circular also mandates submission of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board admission letters, which serve as the primary proof of national admission approval.
In addition, students are expected to provide letters of attestation, confirming character and eligibility, as part of the university’s due diligence procedures.
To standardize documentation, fresh students must pay an additional ₦1,000 to their faculty finance officers for five officially branded UNICROSS files.
Each of the five files must contain photocopies of key documents, including JAMB admission letters, JAMB result slips, and provisional admission letters issued by the university.
Other documents to be inserted include birth certificates or age declarations, certificates of local government origin, and attestation letters, as stipulated by management.
Truth live news correspondents in Calabar reports that the University officials said that incomplete documentation would automatically stall registration, stressing that compliance ensures accurate student records and institutional integrity.
Orientation and Matriculation Schedule Announced
In a separate notice, Circular No. 502 dated January 13, 2026, the university announced dates for orientation and matriculation ceremonies across its campuses.

The circular, addressed to Year One and Direct Entry students, confirmed that orientation exercises would hold simultaneously across all UNICROSS campuses.
According to the Registrar, orientation for newly admitted students has been scheduled for January 19, 2026, and participation is compulsory for all fresh intakes.
Management explained that the orientation programme is designed to familiarize students with academic regulations, campus culture, and institutional expectations.
The matriculation ceremonies, marking students’ formal admission into the university, will be held on different dates across campuses.
The Calabar Campus matriculation ceremony is scheduled for January 29, 2026, while the Ogoja and Okuku campuses will hold theirs on January 30, 2026.
University authorities stressed that only students who have fully paid their sessional fees and completed departmental registration will be allowed to matriculate.
Failure to meet these conditions, management warned, will result in forfeiture of admission, regardless of prior provisional acceptance.
“The payment of full school fees and completion of registration processes are compulsory prerequisites for matriculation,” the circular stated.
The Acting Registrar, Barr. Uno I. Ogban, urged Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty officers to ensure wide publicity of the directives.
He noted that the measures are aimed at maintaining academic order, administrative efficiency, and compliance with university statutes.
University officials further explained that adherence to the outlined procedures would prevent delays, reduce congestion during registration, and improve student experience.
The management advised parents, guardians, and the general public to take note of the guidelines and support students in meeting deadlines.
UNICROSS reiterated that no extension would be granted beyond stipulated timelines, as the academic calendar is structured to ensure uninterrupted teaching and assessment.
The institution concluded by reaffirming its commitment to transparency, discipline, and quality academic administration as the 2025/2026 session commences.
