Customs Service Commissions N500m 60-Bed Hospital Donated by Abdul Samad Rabiu’s ASR Africa in Bauchi

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have officially commissioned the Abdul Samad Rabiu Nigeria Customs Service Hospital in Yelwa Tudu, Bauchi State.

The facility, originally a 30-bed healthcare center donated by ASR Africa, was upgraded and expanded into a state-of-the-art 60-bed reference hospital under the organization’s Security Sector Support Grant (SSSG) Scheme in partnership with the NCS. The project, valued at approximately N500 million, aims to bolster healthcare infrastructure for security personnel and host communities while easing pressure on public health facilities in the region.

The hospital features seven fully equipped clinical departments: obstetrics & gynaecology, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and medical laboratory, all designed to deliver high-quality medical services.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, ACG CG Ogbonna, Assistant Comptroller General of the NCS Bauchi Zone ‘D’ Command, described the event as a landmark achievement. “The completion and the commissioning of the hospital facility donated by ASR Africa mark a significant milestone in the history of NCS and underscore its commitment to the welfare of its officers and host community,” he said.

Dr. Rimi Garba, Zonal Medical Director and Deputy Comptroller of Customs for the Zone, highlighted the facility’s capabilities, noting that each department is equipped to provide top-of-the-range medical services.

Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director/CEO of ASR Africa, reaffirmed the initiative’s focus on sustainable impact. He emphasized that the partnership reflects the vision of ASR Africa Chairman Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, stating: “…there can be no meaningful development without an environment that is safe and secure. This facility will not only serve the Nigeria Customs Service personnel, but the host community and other security agencies in the State will be beneficiaries.” Dr. Udoh added that ASR Africa will maintain ongoing engagement with the NCS to ensure proper maintenance and long-term accountability.

Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, BA Adeniyi MFR, expressed deep gratitude to ASR Africa and its founder. He described the donation as the largest single contribution the NCS has ever received from one organization and pledged full commitment to its upkeep. “This donation has been the largest donation NCS has received from a single organization,” he said, vowing that the service would ensure the facility meets the needs of personnel and the wider community.

Representing the host community, Hon. Tanko Dutse thanked Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu for the philanthropic gesture, which provides better and more affordable healthcare access. He also commended Comptroller General Adeniyi for delivering projects with lasting generational impact.

The commissioning highlights ASR Africa’s growing role in healthcare delivery across Nigeria through collaborations with public institutions to bridge critical service gaps.
