Nkem Vivian, a 22-year-old Nigerian woman, reacted after receiving online criticism for choosing to wed her older white lover.
Vivian married her German fiancé earlier this year, and she frequently posts photos of the two of them on social media. Due to their disparate ages, several internet users have commented negatively on her posts.
In a post she published on her Instagram profile on Friday, May 12, Nkem finally responded to her critic, saying she had chosen happiness over other people’s perceptions.
“I can’t marry an old man because of what people will say. I choose happiness over everything,” she wrote.
When a troll asked her if she “can’t see that he looks like her father-in-law?”, she responded by sharing a video of herself covering her eyes with foreign currency notes.
“How can I see for crying out loud?”, she captioned the video.
