The camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State is crashing further by the day as the lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, ported out of the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker who also chairs the House Committee on Public Service Matters, was formally received into the APC at Nenu, Obingwa LGA of Abia State, by former Deputy Governor, Chris Alozie Akomas, alongside party leaders and supporters.
Erondu defected alongside former Obingwa LGA chairman, Hon. George Ubani, Hon. Chikezirim Monday Orji and over 5,000 supporters in what stakeholders described as a major boost for the APC in Abia State.
Giving his reason for quitting his party, the former Obingwa LGA chairman, said joining the APC would enable him to attract greater development to Obingwa, Abia South and the state at large.
Erondu further pledged to sustain his record of effective representation and urged the people of Obingwa, Abia State, the South-East and Nigeria to support the APC.
“If I could accomplish what I did while in the PDP, I assure our people that, with the APC platform, we will do even more. I urge sustained collaboration to consolidate the gains made so far by President Tinubu,” he said.
He declared total support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing his reform policies as bold and necessary for Nigeria’s long-term growth.
“The re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 is not negotiable,” he added.
The defection followed sustained overtures from key APC figures, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, former Imo State governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu and federal lawmaker, Chris Nkwonta, among others.
In his remarks, Dr. Akomas described Erondu as a priceless political asset and an early founding member of the APC in Abia, having served as the party’s first administrative secretary in the state alongside Chief Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, its pioneer national vice chairman from Abia.
He commended him for heeding the clarion call to join the APC and expressed confidence that his return would strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general election.
