The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Christopher Maikalangu, as the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.
The announcement followed the conclusion of vote collation across the wards in AMAC, after what observers described as a closely contested race. The Returning Officer affirmed that the results were collated from the various polling units in accordance with electoral guidelines before the final declaration was made.
Maikalangu secured the highest number of valid votes cast in the election, defeating candidates of other political parties in the contest. INEC officials stated that the process was conducted under established procedures, with party agents and observers present during collation.
The AMAC election is one of the key area council polls within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), drawing significant political interest due to the council’s strategic importance.
With the declaration, attention is expected to shift to post-election reactions and any potential legal challenges from aggrieved parties, particularly from the Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Dr. Moses Paul.
