Seven Killed, Three Injured in Plateau State Community Attack

At least seven people have been killed and three others critically injured after an armed raid in Ratatis, a community in Dorowa Babuje district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack occurred on Sunday evening.

Residents say the attackers, reportedly Fulani militias, stormed the community around 7:30 pm, firing indiscriminately and setting homes and farmlands on fire.

Albert Dung, a local resident, told reporters on Monday that security agencies had been alerted before the raid, but no action was taken.

“Before the attack, warnings were sent to the Barkin Ladi Sector Command of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), but they did not respond,” he said.

“As a result, the bandits operated unchecked for several hours.”

The Berom Youths Moulder Association (BYM) also confirmed the incident. Its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, called for increased security presence in rural areas to prevent further attacks.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the entire Berom community during this dark time,” he said.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the safety of communities in Plateau State, where banditry and communal violence have intensified in recent months. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the attack.
