Six Arrested in Ondo Over Alleged Fake Miracle Scam

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six men accused of posing as pastors and staging fake miracles to defraud residents of Idanre community in Idanre Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation carried out on February 16, 2026, by the command’s tactical teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers,Truth Live News learnt from the police.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Kazeem, the command said the operation followed credible information about a suspected fraud syndicate operating within Idanre and surrounding areas.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly masqueraded as religious leaders, orchestrating staged miracles and spiritual interventions to win the trust of unsuspecting victims.

Authorities said “the group reportedly exploited residents by promising divine solutions to financial hardship, health challenges and other personal problems, only to obtain money under false pretences”.

Investigations further revealed that the suspects operated in a coordinated manner, assigning specific roles to create what the police described as a convincing and structured appearance of legitimacy.

The command stated that efforts are ongoing to determine the total number of victims, assess the financial scale of the alleged fraud, and identify possible accomplices who may still be at large.

The suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations”.

Police urged members of the public to exercise caution and conduct due diligence, warning against individuals who use religion or claims of miracles as a cover for criminal activity.
