Edo State Commissioner of Works, Engr Felix Akhabue has said the massive ongoing road construction projects across the nooks and crannies of the Edo Central Senatorial district will bring succour and boost the economy of the inhabitants of the district.
He said this while on a-two-day inspection of the ongoing projects in the senatorial district.
Engr. Akhabue who noted that the main occupation of the people of the area is mainly farming, said with the unprecedented road construction currently going on in the district, conveying their farm produce to the market will no longer be a problem due to the good road network.
He said with the roads, wastage of farm produce has been tackled while easy access to neighbouring communities and villages has been made possible courtesy of the governor’s huge investment in road projects in the region.
“You know that the people of these areas are predominantly farmers. And if you see what is happening here, pineapple and so many cash crops are produced along these axis. So, they are going to be connected back again to the economic activity of the state”, Akhabue said.
Akhabue while responding to the question on the state government taking over some of the federal roads projects hitherto abandoned by the federal government, said what matter most to governor is how to alleviate the plights of his people irrespective of who uses the roads.
“And with the issue of federal government, you know, Edo, the governor believes that the roads in Edo are being used by the Edo people and people visiting the state.
“So, you cannot abandon federal road because it’s a federal road. The governor is ready to take all the challenges that are involved. And the federal government is also cooperating with us because we engage them”, he said.
Truth Live News learnt that the commissioner who expressed satisfaction in the way and manner the contractors are handling the projects said that he has no doubt that they will execute them to specifications and deliver them at record time.
He also commended the people of the areas for cooperating with the various contractors, stressing that, that has brought about the accelerated pace of work noting that those whose property were also touched during the construction works have been duly compensated.
Commending the state governor for the ongoing projects, an elder of Emuhi community in Esan West Local Government Area of the state, Mr.Chris Omonkhomion, said that God has come to them in the likeness of men.
He said for the past 30 years, they have been expecting such a tremendous development in their area but it never came not until Monday Okpebholo showed up.
He even alleged that they were once asked to contribute the sum of N1 million for the road to be constructed but thankfully, the governor has come to wipe away their tears.
