Lagos State Seals Mall, Public Toilet Over Improper Waste Disposal

.

Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources on Tuesday sealed COSJANE Mall along Festac Link Road and a public toilet facility on Offin Road over alleged improper waste management practices.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X handle.

According to Wahab, operators of the public toilet facility deliberately channelled their septic chamber into the drainage system, resulting in offensive odour and sewage overflow within the surrounding community.

He described the development as a public nuisance and a clear case of environmental pollution that poses significant risks to public health.

In a related action, the commissioner revealed that COSJANE Mall, located along Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin, was sealed for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into the public drainage system.

Wahab stated that the enforcement followed multiple warnings issued to the mall’s management, which were reportedly ignored.

He stressed that the discharge of untreated wastewater into public drains violates environmental regulations and threatens the wellbeing of residents.

The commissioner reiterated the ministry’s commitment to strict enforcement of environmental laws and ensuring proper wastewater management across the state.
