The Management of BEDC Electricity Plc has Bemoaned the sharp decline in power generation from the national grid, saying the development is negatively affecting the company’s operations, customer’s satisfaction and revenue collection.
Reacting to the situation while speaking with newsmen in Benin City, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Ogunleye Akinleye disclosed that the drop in national grid generation to about 3,940 megawatts has significantly affected electricity distribution across the country including BEDC franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti.
Mr. Ogunleye explained that the situation has had a direct impact on the company’s cash collection, noting that without adequate power supply to customers, the customers payment appetites declines, which had a direct negative impact on the post-paid collection.
Similarly, the low energy has reduced the vending of prepaid customers, resulting to poor revenue collection by the company.
According to him, the poor revenue collection has led to the company’s inability to meet its market obligation which allows it access for full OPEX.
The BEDC Boss, regretted that the persistent drop in power generation has created significant challenges for the sector and therefore appealed to customers across BEDC’s franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti to remain patient and continue to support the company.
He reassured customers that the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders in the Nigerian electricity supply industry are working tirelessly to address the challenges affecting power generation and distribution in the country.
