Islamic Group in Nigeria Rejects Israeli Envoy’s Terrorism Claims

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has denied accusations that it is supported by Iran to spread terrorism in Nigeria.

The group’s response came after comments by Michael Freeman, who alleged that Iran was sponsoring Islamic movements in Nigeria and across West Africa to promote terrorism.

TruthLive News recalls that Freeman, speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Friday, said Iran had been involved in spreading terror globally and claimed Nigeria had been affected by its activities. He also referred to Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programmes as part of broader security concerns.

The remarks came shortly after protests by members of the IMN, also known as Shi’ites, in several Nigerian states. Demonstrators were reacting to the reported killing of Ali Khamenei during recent United States and Israeli strikes on Tehran.

In a statement issued by its media forum on Saturday, the IMN rejected the allegations and described them as false.

Ammar Rajab, chairman of the group’s media forum, said the ambassador’s claims were “a blatant falsehood” and warned that such comments could increase tension among Muslims in Nigeria.

“It is inappropriate for representatives of a state accused of serious violations of international law to lecture others about terrorism or security,” Rajab said.

He added that the Islamic Movement of Nigeria describes itself as a movement based on ideology and activism rather than a formal organisation. According to him, in more than five decades of activity, no Nigerian court has convicted the group of terrorism or violent acts.

Rajab urged the public to ignore what he called unfounded allegations aimed at discrediting the movement.
