Police operatives, in conjunction with members of the Edo State Security Corps, have neutralized one suspected kidnapper while declaring three others wanted.
It said that the security agents killed the suspect during a gun duel in the Onogholo and Akwocha forests in Edo Central.
During the encounter, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the advancing security team but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives.
A statement by the Edo State Police Command image maker, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said that the bush-combing operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The statement said that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ubiaja Division, and his team for their resilience, professionalism, and sustained operational tempo, which led to the successes.
The command called on residents to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible and timely information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the area and the state at large of criminal elements.
Items recovered from the suspects were one single-barrel shotgun, one black facial mask, two live cartridges, and two expended cartridges.
