Evangelist Maria Isemevwodan Oisamoje hails from Ogute village in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. Her early life was shaped by discipline, academic commitment and a strong belief in the power of education to transform lives.
She began her formal education at Convent School II, now known as Alderstown Primary School, located on Skin Road in Warri, Delta State. She later attended Our Lady’s High School in Effurun where she distinguished herself academically. In 1970 she successfully obtained her West African School Certificate and was ranked among the top performing students in her academic cohort.
Her early achievements laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to education and public service.
Teaching Career and Academic Advancement
After completing secondary school, she briefly served as a clerical officer at the Ministry of Agriculture in Benin City in the then Bendel State. However her passion for education soon led her to the College of Education in Abraka where she earned the Nigeria Certificate of Education with majors in Biology and Chemistry and graduated with distinction in Chemistry.
Her academic excellence earned her automatic employment with the Bendel State Ministry of Education as a Chemistry teacher. She was posted to Chude Grammar School in Sapele where she taught with distinction for three years and received commendation for her outstanding performance from the school administration and parents.
Determined to further expand her academic profile, she later attended the University of Nigeria in Nsukka where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry Education. Following graduation she completed her National Youth Service Corps programme at St Ita’s Grammar School in Sapele.
Her commitment to knowledge and professional growth remained unwavering throughout her career.
Professional Service and Continued Education
Following her marriage and family life, Evangelist Oisamoje joined the Metallurgical Training Centre in Ajaokuta, Kogi State where she continued her teaching career.
Her passion for academic advancement led her to begin a Master’s degree programme in Analytical Chemistry at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Although she temporarily paused the programme to focus on family responsibilities, her commitment to education remained evident.
After relocating with her family to Benin City she enrolled at Benson Idahosa University where she studied Educational Guidance and Counselling, further strengthening her expertise in education and human development.
Her journey later took her to the United States where she trained as a medical assistant at Lincoln Technical Institute in Somerville, Boston, Massachusetts, expanding her professional experience into the healthcare support sector.

Beyond her professional career, Evangelist Maria Isemevwodan Oisamoje is widely known for her deep commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
She founded and leads a humanitarian initiative focused on supporting vulnerable groups across Edo State, particularly within Owan West and surrounding communities.
