Abuja , Nigeria.

The Canadian High Commission in Abuja, located at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District, is engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire remains unconfirmed, but images circulating online depict billowing smoke from the building.

Tragically, the fire at the Embassy of Canada in Abuja claimed the lives of at least two individuals, with another person sustaining critical injuries. Eyewitnesses report that the incident occurred during repairs on the embassy’s power generator, leading to a sudden outbreak of fire. The victims were part of the technical crew working on the generator when it exploded, propelling two individuals out of the powerhouse, causing their fatalities.

Efforts to combat the fire were successfully undertaken by the Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the area has now been secured for further investigation into the fire’s origins. Sources suggest that the fire initiated in the generator house, not the main building.

A diesel tank in close proximity to the generator house may have exploded due to increased temperature. The tragic incident also claimed the life of a service provider’s personnel responsible for servicing the generators used by the embassy. Meanwhile, the other two injured individuals are receiving medical care at the hospital.

This devastating incident at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja highlights the urgency for a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire.
