A former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, has finally hopped out from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after putting in 28 solid years in the party.
Senator Imoke, a former two-term governor of Cross River State between 2007 and 2015, made this known in a resignation letter addressed to the ward chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Itigidi Council Ward, Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, and dated 3 March 2026.
The former Cross River State governor, who also served as senator representing the Central Senatorial District of the state more than three decades ago, based his resignation on the unending crisis currently bedeviling the party, which he joined as a founding member in 1998.
His words “Regrettably, my resignation is due to the protracted crisis within the party, which has made it impossible for me to effectively serve the party and the people.
“I am grateful for the opportunities the party has offered me to serve our nation and state as Presidential Special Adviser, Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Governor of Cross River State.
“I wish you all the best and again express my sincere appreciation for the support I enjoyed over the years. Please accept the assurances of my warmest regards,” Senator Imoke said.
Senator Imoke has been an active member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and is widely expected to join the party in the coming days.
His predecessor in office, Mr Donald Duke, earlier bolted out of the party and formally registered as a member of the ADC in Cross River State.
