Toba Owojaiye reporting
Benin, Edo state
In an urgent message addressed to all Local Government Area (LGA) party chairmen, ward party chairmen, and monitoring committee members, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) reaffirms its commitment to the motto “Justice, Unity, and Progress” under the banner of “Power to the People.” The latest reports from 192 ward party secretariats indicate that the ongoing registration and mobilization of PDP members are progressing smoothly across most wards.
However, a notable exception has emerged in Ward 5 of Egor Local Government Area (LGA), where there are reported attempts to hinder the registration of individuals seeking to join the party. The PDP’s monitoring team, in conjunction with the LGA Chairman, has been directed to rectify this situation promptly, ensuring that all interested individuals are registered without discrimination.
Truth Live News gathered that the turnout was encouraging and substantial, with Edolites enthusiastically registering with the party. This surge in registrations was attributed to the extension granted by the National Headquarters, providing citizens with an extended opportunity to join the PDP.
To streamline the registration process, the PDP emphasized the following key points:
⁃ All registers, both old and new, must be submitted to the party secretariat at No. 59, Airport Road, by the latest 6 PM on Saturday, 9th December 2023.
⁃ The ward chairmen and secretaries are instructed to close the registers by drawing a line after the last person, writing “REGISTER CLOSED,” and signing.
⁃ No individual should be disenfranchised from registration under any circumstance.
⁃ Registers not signed by both the ward chairmen and secretaries should not be brought to the State Secretariat.
This announcement was undersigned by Tony Anenih Jnr., the State Organizing Secretary.
The PDP urged all stakeholders to adhere to these guidelines as they work towards ensuring a fair and inclusive registration process.
