Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress have commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for what they described as his significant role in promoting the political interests of the South-East region and strengthening its voice in national politics.
The commendation was contained in a statement released on Saturday, March 14, 2026, by the APC Integrity Group, and signed by its National Coordinator, Ardo Zubariu, and National Secretary, Chisom Nwakanma.
The group also applauded residents of the South-East living in the Federal Capital Territory for supporting candidates of the ruling party during the recently concluded FCT Area Councils elections.
According to the statement, Kalu, who served as Secretary of the APC Campaign Council for the elections, played a crucial role during the campaign period by urging South-East residents in the FCT to support the party at the polls.
The group noted that the appeal received overwhelming backing, which it said contributed significantly to the party’s victories in five of the six area councils.
“We sincerely appreciate the South-East residents in the FCT for standing with the Deputy Speaker and supporting APC candidates during the election. Their solidarity and participation played a vital role in the successes recorded by the party,” the statement read.
The stakeholders further highlighted Kalu’s leadership profile, describing him as one of the most influential figures representing the South-East in Nigeria’s national political space.
The statement added, “Hon. Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, is currently serving as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. A lawyer, policy advocate and experienced legislator, he has distinguished himself through effective parliamentary leadership and commitment to national unity and inclusive governance.
“Since assuming office as Deputy Speaker, Kalu has played a key role in promoting legislative reforms, strengthening democratic institutions and supporting policies aimed at economic growth and national development. He has also been actively involved in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation and greater national integration.”
The APC Integrity Group also said Kalu’s strategic role in government has helped increase political visibility and representation for the South-East at the national level.
“Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has demonstrated capacity, competence and commitment to national service. His leadership continues to open new opportunities for the South-East within the national political space,” the group stated.
The stakeholders urged South-East residents across the country to continue supporting leaders from the region, noting that such backing would help strengthen the zone’s political relevance and attract more development.
“We believe that unity and strategic engagement with leaders such as Hon. Benjamin Kalu will further enhance the political relevance of the South-East and attract greater developmental opportunities for the region,” the statement added.
