Passengers travelling on the early morning Kaduna–Abuja rail service on Monday were left stranded after their train failed to reach its destination following a collision with another train along the rail corridor.
According to passengers aboard the Abuja-bound train, the incident occurred mid-route when the train reportedly clashed with another train operating along the same corridor, forcing an abrupt halt to operations on the busy rail line.
Eyewitness accounts from passengers described a moment of confusion and anxiety as the train suddenly came to a stop after the impact. Although the extent of damage and possible casualties remained unclear at the time of filing this report, passengers said railway officials quickly began assessing the situation while instructing travellers to remain calm.
The Kaduna–Abuja standard gauge railway line is one of Nigeria’s busiest rail corridors, widely used by commuters seeking a safer and faster alternative to the highway, which has historically been plagued by security concerns.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement detailing the cause of the collision, the condition of passengers, or when full operations on the rail line will resume.
