Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has expressed dissatisfaction with the way awards are presented at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, suggesting that the process falls short of what is obtainable on the international stage.
The actor made the remark on Monday through a post on his Instagram Story after sharing a clip from the 2026 edition of the Academy Awards.
In the video, Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan was seen receiving the Best Actor award for his role in the film Sinners. Shortly after his win was announced, the trophy was engraved with his name on the spot before he left the stage.
Reacting to the moment, Remi appeared impressed by the immediate engraving of the winner’s name and used it to highlight what he implied was a contrasting experience at the AMVCA.
“So they engrave your name after you win! Right there. Take it home! If na AMVCA, all of you will share one for the night then comeback and collect it at the next award,” he wrote.
However, records from previous editions of the AMVCA show that winners typically receive their plaques during the ceremony unless they are not physically present to accept the award.
The actor’s comment may have been influenced by an incident at the 2025 edition of the The Headies. During that event, Nigerian singer Shallipopi won the Best Rap Single category but was only given a handshake on stage without the plaque at the moment of announcement.
Remi has previously voiced concerns about the AMVCA. In 2023, he questioned his omission from the nomination list despite his performance as Saro in the Netflix film Anikulapo, a production that received multiple nominations at the awards ceremony.
