Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has defended the administration’s ongoing reforms, saying they are designed to secure Nigeria’s long-term stability.
Speaking on Tuesday at the State House while receiving leaders of the civic group Working People United (WOPU), Gbajabiamila acknowledged that some policy decisions may be difficult in the short term but stressed they are necessary for the nation’s future.
“Effective leadership requires making tough and sometimes unpopular choices that ultimately benefit the country,” he said. “Our reforms are beginning to reshape national conversations, with debates shifting from whether they are necessary to how they are being implemented.”
Gbajabiamila also commended WOPU for its constructive engagement, describing collaboration between government and civic organisations as critical to national development.
Williams Akporeha, WOPU’s coordinator-general, said the group represents a broad spectrum of Nigerian workers, including artisans, professionals, farmers, and youths, with membership across all states and local government areas.
He said WOPU supports the ongoing reforms and believes continued partnership with the government will strengthen democratic institutions and public trust.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and collaboration to advance Nigeria’s economic and institutional reforms.
