In a bid to foster unity within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has called on aggrieved governorship aspirants and party members to set aside their differences and rally behind the official flagbearer, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
The call was made today during the Certificate of Return presentation ceremony at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, Data Plaza, Abuja.
Truth Live News Correspondent was on the ground to cover the event, where Damagum emphasized the need for solidarity within the party for a successful electoral outcome in September 2024.
Damagum urged those still nursing grievances, particularly Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philips Shaibu, to reconcile and work towards the common goal of securing victory for the PDP in Edo State. He acknowledged the intensity of the recently concluded primaries but stressed that the ultimate objective is to win the election.
“The objective is to win the election. I want to use this opportunity to call on the people of Edo. Even though it was a hotly contested primary, as you people have always said, Edo State is PDP, and to the glory of God, it will be so,” Damagum affirmed.
Addressing the inevitability of disagreements post-primaries, Damagum noted that the present moment is crucial for reconciliation. He called on Dr. Asue Ighodalo to engage with fellow contestants, fostering understanding and collaboration to ensure a smooth ride for the PDP in Edo State.
“I am urging the candidate (Ighodalo) to go after fellow contestants and make them see how things can work out with him. Edo will be an easy ride for us. We fear what has happened in other parties. Let us not rejoice because they are having their own challenges. We should be more focused on our own challenges and be more focused on taking Edo State back to PDP,” Damagum concluded.
As the PDP gears up for the gubernatorial election, Damagum’s call for unity serves as a rallying cry for party members to put aside internal differences and channel their energy towards reclaiming Edo State for the PDP.
