A prominent cleric in Cross River State, Archbishop Emmah Isong, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Isong made the appeal on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, during the inauguration of the Cross River State chapter of the Arise with Renewed Hope Initiative, a political support group aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
The cleric, who was also inaugurated as chairman of a 30-man committee of the group, said the initiative is committed to mobilising grassroots support for Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu.
He emphasised the need for Nigerians to back leaders who demonstrate integrity and a strong sense of moral responsibility, warning against entrusting power to individuals lacking such values.
“The Cross River chapter of this initiative is proud of the synergy among our leaders, and we are determined to build on it to unite the people ahead of the 2027 elections,” Isong said.
He stressed that leadership must be rooted in strong moral principles, noting that governance without the fear of God could have serious consequences for society.
“Power must be used by those who fear God. It is dangerous for society when people without such values are in leadership,” he added.
Isong also commended Governors Umo Eno and Bassey Otu for their commitment to good governance, stating that the group would continue to support policies and leaders focused on improving citizens’ welfare.
He further urged religious leaders across the country to play active roles in nation-building by encouraging responsible civic engagement among their followers.
“As religious leaders, we are not only concerned about the next election but the next generation. We must ensure that people with the right values emerge as leaders,” he said.
The cleric also called for increased voter mobilisation, especially among Nigerians in the diaspora, encouraging them to return home and participate in the electoral process.
He added that the committee would prioritise grassroots engagement and strategic mobilisation to ensure strong support for the endorsed candidates in the 2027 elections.
