The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that he would be eternally grateful to late Madam Alice Okojie for her prayers and support for him after his second term election in the state just as he described her as a prayerful woman whose virtues and sacrifice portrays a good Christian life.

The governor made the remarks at the Requiem Mass held in honour of late Madam Okojie at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

“We are all here this morning having been touched by mama, either directly through her activities in church or through her very wonderfully brought up children. I am here to pay last respects to this great woman.

“Mama is a beacon, a prayer warrior because she believes in progress and betterment of the society. Everyone who wrote about mama has said almost the same thing about her. She was a loving woman, honest and sacrificed herself for others”, Obaseki said.

He continued “I will always be grateful to her for the love, confidence, prayers and support she gave to me. After my second election, I asked mama what I should do for her and she said just tar my road for me. When there was a delay, they came to her to ask why her son, the governor, had not done the road. She said my son promised, “I am sure and I know he will do it, that is the kind of person mama was.

“As a church, you have to decide on the project to honour mama and I will be the largest contributor to that programme,” Obaseki added.

In his Homily, Parish Priest of St. Paul Catholic Church, Rev Fr. Charles Omogiate extolled the virtues of late Madam Okojie, and urged the sympathizers to emulate her deeds.
