Plateau Govt Imposes 48-Hour Curfew After Deadly Attack in Jos

The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack on Sunday that left several residents dead and many others injured in the Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba.

According to Eyewitness reports, monitored by Truthlive news international, the attackers, who rode on motorcycles, invaded the community around 7:30 pm while people were going about their normal businesses, firing bullets indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.

At least 12 residents were confirmed dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked.

The curfew took effect from 12 midnight on March 29 and will remain in force until April 1, 2026, with the measure deemed necessary to restore order and prevent a further breakdown of law and security following the incident.

Troops from Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace have been deployed to the area to prevent further violence and restore order.

The troops subsequently cordoned off major access routes to the community and ordered residents to remain indoors while a coordinated search operation was launched to track down the attackers.

The University of Jos also announced the postponement of examinations originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, citing safety concerns, with students and staff advised to avoid unnecessary movement and report any suspicious activity to the University Security Division.

Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang assured the public that the Government is working audaciously and putting all necessary security measures in place to see that normalcy is restored and perpetrators of such heinous crimes are apprehended.
