The Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed the Sokoto Emirate Council Amendment Bill through its first and second readings, sparking controversy.
Truth Live News gathered that, If enacted, the bill would curtail the Sultan of Sokoto’s authority to appoint kingmakers and district heads without government approval.
The sinister move was preempted by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima who had cautioned the governor to thread carefully.
This move follows concerns raised by the Muslim Rights Concern about potential actions against Sultan Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
The Sultan plays a significant role not only in traditional matters but also as a spiritual leader for Nigerian Muslims. Despite assurances from the Sokoto State government that there are no plans to depose the Sultan, tensions persist amid recent similar actions in neighboring states.
