Otti Urges Christians to Engage in Politics Ahead of Elections

The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has called on Christians to take a more active role in politics, urging them to register and vote in upcoming elections.

Speaking at a church event in Aba on Sunday, Mr Otti said many believers have traditionally avoided politics, a stance he linked to teachings he received growing up.

“I come from a pastoral background, and there was a time politics was discouraged,” he said. “But if those who believe in God stay away, others will take control.”

The governor made the remarks during the 28th anniversary of the Zam Jehovah Nights programme at the Assemblies of God Church in Aba.

He stressed that participation in elections is essential to sustaining development, particularly in Abia State. “The only way to ensure continuity of the progress we are making is through your votes,” he told the congregation.

Mr Otti also urged church leaders to encourage their members to register for voter cards through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that many eligible voters have yet to do so.

“There are still many people who are not registered, and even among those who are, some do not come out to vote,” he said. “This must change.”

The governor thanked the church for its support and congratulated members on the anniversary celebration.

In his remarks, the senior pastor, Rev. Ogboso Ejindu, described Mr Otti as a leader committed to improving the state and encouraged continued support for his administration.

The event, which attracts participants from within and outside Nigeria, is an annual religious gathering focused on prayer and spiritual reflection.
