With the September 21 governorship election in Edo State fast approaching, Mr. Oteghe Adams, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has sharply criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its alleged plans for a third term led by Senator Adams Oshiomhole. Adams described these plans as unrealistic and doomed to fail.
In a statement released to the press, Adams accused the APC leadership of being overwhelmed by the prospect of defeat. He claimed that Oshiomhole’s strategies have not only faltered but have also led to significant internal turmoil within the party. Adams suggested that voters outside Oshiomhole’s stronghold in Etsako should remember the neglect they’ve faced during the campaign.
Adams further alleged that Oshiomhole has undermined both the official and unofficial roles of party leadership, including sidelining the campaign’s Director-General, Mathew Urhoghide. He criticized Oshiomhole for his alleged obsession with power and his attempts to manipulate the election process.
Highlighting what he called a “dangerous electoral virus,” Adams accused Oshiomhole’s faction of the APC of spreading dysfunction within the party. He also claimed that Oshiomhole has neglected his duties as Senator for Edo North, further weakening the APC’s position.
Regarding the APC’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, Adams dismissed him as ineffective, stating that his absence from the Senate would likely be a relief rather than a loss. He criticized Okpebholo as an example of poor political judgment.
“On the matter of abandonment of Senate responsibility, such issue does not matter to Okpebholo who is being leashed behind Oshiomhole like a lobotomised canine.
“For Monday Okpebholo, he was of zero consequence while merely warming the seat even when physically present in the hallowed chambers, so his absence now is simultaneously of no impact.
“Indeed, Okphebholo’s constituency may even feel better with his absence from the Senate floor instead of their daily mortal fear of being embarrassed by his presence, a permanent reminder that Okphebholo was a grave political error in the first instance.
“Oshiomhole will not only falter but will ultimately fail in his bid to smuggle an embarrassingly incompetent and remarkably unfit Okpeholo into Edo State government house.
Adams reassured voters that the PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo/Osarodion Ogie, offers a compelling vision for the future of Edo State. He urged the electorate to stay vigilant against any attempts to rig the election and to support the PDP’s plans for progress.
“We are at the crossroads of history; Asue Ighodalo/Osarodion Ogie PDP manifesto provides the energetic blueprint for a brighter society of the 21st century.
“The electorate will rise with a sense of constitutional vigilance against any attempt to alter the expressed will of the people.”
