Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has urged citizens to remain hopeful and united, saying that “no nation thrives under fear”.
In an Easter message released on Friday, 3 April 2026, the president congratulated Christians across the country and highlighted the significance of the season.
He said Easter, which marks the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, represents sacrifice, resilience and the triumph of light over darkness.
Mr Tinubu said the message of Easter reflects Nigeria’s current situation, as the country faces economic pressures and security challenges, while efforts continue to address them.
“This season reminds us of sacrifice, resilience and the triumph of light over darkness,” he said, adding that the values of the celebration offer encouragement in difficult times.
The president acknowledged the role of the armed forces in tackling insecurity and said his administration was increasing support and strengthening international partnerships to combat terrorism and banditry.
He also referred to his recent visit to Plateau State, where he met victims of violence and reassured residents of the government’s commitment to restoring peace.
Mr Tinubu said security agencies had given assurances of progress, while support was also being received from international partners.
He called on Nigerians to promote peaceful coexistence and support lawful efforts to maintain stability.
On the economy, the president said ongoing reforms were necessary to achieve long-term growth, noting that “true transformation cannot be achieved without sacrifice”.
He also urged political actors to uphold democratic principles and ensure peaceful participation as the country approaches another electoral cycle.
Mr Tinubu expressed optimism about the country’s direction, saying key indicators suggest improvement.
“A new dawn is on the horizon,” he said.
