Breaking: Tinubu Appoints New Acting Chief of Army Staff

President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff.

Oluyede will serve in the role while awaiting the return of the unwell Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

Prior to his appointment, Oluyede held the position of the 56th Commander of the prestigious Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Jaji, Kaduna.

Oluyede and Lagbaja, both 56 years old, were classmates and part of the 39th Regular Course together.

He received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1992, with an effective date retroactively set to 1987. He advanced to the rank of Major-General in September 2020.

He held the position of Platoon Commander and adjutant at the 65 Battalion, served as Company Commander at the 177 Guards Battalion, acted as Staff Officer for the Guards Brigade, and was the Commandant of the Amphibious Training School.

General Oluyede took part in various military operations, including the ECOMOG Mission in Liberia under the Economic Community of West African States, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi, and Operation HADIN KAI in the northeastern region, where he led the 27 Task Force Brigade.

Oluyede has received numerous accolades in recognition of his outstanding contributions across multiple areas of operations. His commendations consist of the Corps Medal of Honour, the Grand Service Star, completion of the Staff Course, and his membership in the National Institute.

Other awards include the Field Command Medal, the Field Command Medal of Honour, and the Field Training Medal.

Oluyede was honored with the prestigious Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award.

He is a devoted husband and father of three children.
