Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has appeared at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja to face allegations of fraud involving N110 billion.

Bello, who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in April 2024, turned himself in at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, where he was questioned. He was subsequently taken to court on Wednesday morning for the hearing.

The EFCC had initially filed 19 charges against Bello, accusing him and three othersā€”his nephews, Ali Bello and Dauda Suliman, along with Abdulsalam Huduā€”of laundering over N80 billion.

This marks the first court appearance for Bello since the charges were filed, as the EFCC had previously struggled to secure his arraignment.

The case, which has drawn significant public attention, is one of the largest financial fraud allegations involving a former governor in Nigeria. Further proceedings are expected in the coming days.
