Spain Moves to Reopen Tehran Embassy After Ceasefire Deal

Spain has announced plans to reopen its embassy in Iran, weeks after it was shut down in March amid escalating conflict in the region, according to AFP.

The decision was confirmed on Thursday by Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, following a truce agreement involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Speaking to reporters in Madrid on April 9, Albares said he had directed Spain’s ambassador to return to Tehran and resume diplomatic operations.

“I have given instructions to our ambassador in Tehran to return, to resume his post and reopen the Spanish embassy in Tehran, and for us to contribute through all the means available to us, including from Iran’s own capital, to efforts for peace,” he said.

Spain had temporarily closed its embassy in Tehran in March due to security concerns linked to the conflict. The reopening signals a renewed diplomatic push by Madrid to support ongoing peace efforts in the region.
