EU Opens Six-Month Traineeship for Young Nigerian Graduates

The European Union Delegation to Nigeria has announced a six-month traineeship programme for young Nigerian graduates seeking experience in international relations and diplomacy.

In a notice published on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the delegation stated that the traineeship will be hosted within its Political, Press and Information Section and is scheduled to begin in July 2026. The deadline for applications is May 8, 2026.

According to the delegation, the programme is designed to provide participants with hands-on insight into the operations of a diplomatic mission and how the EU advances its interests and values in Nigeria.

Successful applicants will take part in drafting reports on political developments, human rights, economic trends, regional issues, and foreign policy. They will also support the organisation of meetings, prepare minutes, assist with communication activities, contribute to public diplomacy events, and help coordinate official visits from the European External Action Service headquarters and other EU institutions.

Interested candidates are required to submit a Europass CV, a cover letter, and a completed application form via email before the deadline. The application form is available on the EU’s official website.

To be eligible, applicants must be Nigerian citizens residing in Abuja, possess at least a bachelor’s degree, and have no more than one year of professional experience after graduation. Candidates must also not have accumulated more than six weeks of prior experience with EU institutions.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, while selected trainees will receive a monthly stipend to support living expenses. However, participants will be responsible for covering their travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation costs.
