Deadly Shooting at Recreational Site in Herat Province Leaves Several Casualties

At least four people have been killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on civilians at a recreational site in Herat Province, according to local officials.

Truth Live News International learnt from BBC World News that the attack occurred in the Enjil district near the village of Deh Mehri, where residents had gathered for leisure activities. Authorities said the assailants, reportedly on motorcycles, targeted the group before fleeing the scene.

Casualty figures remain inconsistent. A spokesperson for the Taliban interior ministry reported that seven people were killed and more than a dozen injured, while provincial officials confirmed at least four deaths. Medical sources suggested the toll could be higher, with additional casualties among the wounded.

Victims were taken to a regional hospital in Herat, where several injured individuals are said to be in critical condition.

Local sources indicated that many of those targeted belonged to the Hazara Shia Muslim community, a minority group that has faced repeated attacks in recent years.

Officials confirmed that one suspect has been detained as investigations continue. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

The attack took place on a Friday, 10 April, 2026, a day when the area is typically busy with visitors to nearby religious and recreational sites.
