‘God Blessed Me’—But Did He? Woman Arrested Over Alleged Fake House Claim

NIGERIA, ENUGU – Loveth Helen Alo, 32, is currently having a running battle with the police as she is being arrested and arraigned in an Enugu Magistrate Court following an alleged fake testimony at Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos.

Her arrest and subsequent arraignment followed a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu.

She had allegedly presented the property as hers during a testimony at Zion Prayer Ministry and was seen in a viral video testifying at a Zion Ministry programme, claiming that God had blessed her with the acquisition of the said property.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said that footage of the building was displayed in the church during her testimony.

He said, “In another viral video, she allegedly stated that she had purchased the house for N200,000,000.00.During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that she acted alone.”

The woman who was arrested on February 1, 2025, by Detectives from the Enugu State Police Command, attached to the Legal Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), was yesterday arraigned in Enugu North Magisterial District Court.

She was handed a five-count charge, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

Ndukwe said: “She was granted bail, and the case was adjourned to April 9, 2025, for further hearing.”

However, the charge sheet reads thus: “That you, Loveth Alo Helen ‘f’, on the 26th day of February, 2025, at Plot 16, WTC Estate, Enugu, in Enugu North Magisterial District, did by false pretence and with intent to defraud, presented yourself as the owner of a Five (5) Bedroom Duplex situate at Plot 16, WTC Estate, Enugu, belonging to one Arch. Emmanuel Asogwa ‘m’, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 460 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.”

“That you, Loveth Alo Helen ‘f’, and others now at large, on the 26th day of February, 2025, at Plot 16, WTC Estate, Enugu, in Enugu North Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Defamation of character and attempt to commit felony, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.”

“That you, Loveth Alo Helen ‘f’, on the same date and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did defame the character of one Evang. Ebuka Obi ‘m’, Arch. Emmanuel Asogwa ‘m’, and The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach Nigeria by giving false testimony in the ministry, knowing same to be likely to injure the character and/or reputation of Evang. Ebuka Obi ‘m’, Arch. Emmanuel Asogwa ‘m’, and The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach Nigeria, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 326 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.”

Speaking to journalists after the court session, Helen denied any external influence in her actions. “I did the testimony claiming that I will get it. Nobody arranged anything with me. I did not collect anything from anybody,” Alo said.

She further explained that she had inspected the house before making the testimony. “We are processing to get it, and I told them that I’m coming,” Alo maintained.
