CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – The Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare partnerships to enhance residents’ well-being.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), led by its chairman, Dr. Ezoke Epoke in Calabar, Odey praised medical professionals for their dedication and contributions.

“We appreciate the invaluable efforts of medical professionals in ensuring quality healthcare delivery. This renewed partnership will improve the health status of our people,” he stated.

He expressed concern over rising quackery in the medical profession, calling it a serious threat to public health.

The government, he assured, is taking decisive steps to eliminate unqualified practitioners and protect citizens.

Governor Odey also addressed the shortage of healthcare workers, revealing plans to invest in medical education and improve staff welfare.

“We are committed to training more doctors by establishing a School of Medicine at UNICROSS,” he said.

Dr. Epoke commended the state government for prioritizing healthcare, citing improvements in health facilities and increased immunization coverage.

He urged further support through better salaries and an increased retirement age for medical personnel.

The meeting was attended by top government officials and representatives of NMA affiliate bodies.
