Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and one-half of the defunct P-Square group, has credited late pop icon Michael Jackson as a major influence on his music career.
Speaking in a recent interview with Nile Entertainment, Okoye said his admiration for Jackson began at a young age after he first encountered the singer’s music at a family event.
He recalled that although he initially danced to entertain guests, Jackson’s stage presence and artistry left a lasting impression that shaped his passion for performance.
Okoye added that he and his twin brother incorporated elements of Jackson’s style into their work, particularly in the video for their song E No Easy, which was produced around the time of Jackson’s death in 2009.
According to him, the tribute drew recognition from Jackson’s family, who reached out to commend the effort.
Reflecting on Jackson’s legacy, Okoye described him as a defining figure in global music and performance, noting that his influence remains evident in his own career.
He also acknowledged adopting several of Jackson’s signature dance moves into his performances, including the “back slide” and other iconic routines.
Michael Jackson, widely regarded as one of the most influential entertainers of all time, died in June 2009. His legacy continues to shape artists across generations.
