Ukraine Hits Russian Oil Infrastructure in Widening Drone Campaign

Ukraine launched a fresh wave of drone strikes targeting key oil facilities across Russia, including refineries, an oil depot in Crimea, and a major export port on the Baltic Sea.

According to Russian officials and Ukrainian sources, the overnight attacks hit refineries in the Samara region specifically in Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran while also striking infrastructure at the port of Vysotsk near St. Petersburg. The port handles significant volumes of petroleum products through facilities linked to Lukoil.

Regional authorities reported fires at multiple sites, though some were later brought under control. In Russian-occupied Crimea, air defenses reportedly intercepted dozens of drones, but damage including a fire at a fuel storage facility was still recorded.

Ukrainian officials said the strikes are part of a broader strategy to weaken Russia’s war financing by disrupting oil production and export logistics. Recent attacks have increasingly targeted facilities far from the front lines, highlighting Kyiv’s growing long-range strike capability.

Ukraine’s security service also claimed to have targeted Russian naval assets stationed in Crimea, though those reports have not been independently verified.

The intensified campaign underscores Ukraine’s focus on energy infrastructure as a strategic pressure point in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
