The Council of Legal Education has released results of the December 2025 Bar Final Examinations, with 79.1 per cent of candidates successfully passing the professional exams that qualify law graduates to practise in Nigeria.
In a public notice issued from the Nigerian Law School headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, on Monday, April 20, 2026, the Council revealed that a total of 7,602 candidates sat for the examinations.
A breakdown of the results showed that 212 candidates achieved First Class, representing 2.7 per cent of the cohort. A total of 1,216 recorded Second Class Upper Division, while 2,961 the largest single group obtained Second Class Lower Division.
Another 1,622 candidates got a Pass, while 314 received a Conditional Pass.
However, 1,067 candidates failed the examinations outright, while 210 were marked absent.
The release of results was, however, not without controversy. Thousands of candidates were unable to access the Nigerian Law School’s website to check their results, with the platform having been down for several days before coming back online, and continuing to experience severe difficulties as candidates attempted to log in simultaneously.
The website difficulties reignited criticism of the Law School’s IT infrastructure, particularly in light of digital reform promises made by the pioneer female Director-General, Dr. Odusote, since assuming office.
The Council congratulated the successful candidates for their “hard work, dedication and perseverance,” adding that information about the Call to the Bar ceremony and screening process would be communicated through individual portals on the Nigerian Law School website.
