CALABAR, CROSS RIVER – The University of Calabar has directed all undergraduate students in campus hostels to vacate their rooms on or before July 28, 2025.
In a memo released by the Public Relations Unit, the Dean of Students, Prof. Patrick Egaga, said the evacuation follows the conclusion of semester examinations on Friday, July 25.
Prof. Egaga explained that the hostels would undergo routine renovation and fumigation in preparation for the next academic session. “This is a necessary process to maintain hygiene and safety,” he said.
Students are expected to surrender university property such as mattresses and keys in good condition to their Hall Administrators, the memo stated.

They must also leave their rooms clean and tidy. Failure to do so may attract penalties, according to the university’s notice.
The memo further cautioned students to remove all personal belongings before departure. “The University will not be responsible for any items left behind,” it read.
However, the directive exempts medical students in designated hostels and foreign students with valid study permits.
The exempted students have been advised to liaise with the Students Affairs Division for further instructions.
UNICAL urged full cooperation from students to ensure a smooth transition. The Public Relations Unit noted that institutional maintenance efforts are in the interest of all.
