…declines appointment as the Director, Media, Publicity and Strategy for Bye-election
Ambassador Tony Okonigene, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has officially resigned from the party, citing irreconcilable differences.
This was contained in a letter he personally signed and made available to newsmen in irrua.
Okonigene declined his recent appointment as Director of Media, Publicity, and Strategy for the Edo Central Campaign Council for the August 16, 2025, bye-election, expressing his inability to support a cause he no longer believes in.
When Truth Live News spoke with him over the weekend, Okonigene complained bitterly over the way the Edo central primary election was manipulated to favour the winner, asking “how can one man stay outside the country and be calling leaders not to vote for a certain candidate who everyone knows as a grassroots politician who can win elections? It means we have not yet learned from our mistakes of the past that have crippled the party in Edo” Okonigene stated in disappointment.
Okonigene urged the people of Edo Central to show strong support for the Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, so that he can be encouraged to bring the much-needed dividends of democracy to the people.
In his letter, he expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities given to him to serve in various capacities, leading to his election as a member of the State Executive Committee.
The letter reads;
July 29, 2025
The Chairman,
Peoples Democratic Party,
Ward 6, Esan Central LGA,
Edo State.
RESIGNATION OF MY MEMBERSHIP OF THE PDP
I write to formerly inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. This decision was taken after due consultations with my God, family members, and close associates.
I remain grateful to the party for the several opportunities given to me to serve in various capacities leading to my election as a member of the State Executive Committee
I also wish to decline my recent appointment as the Director, Media, Publicity and Strategy of the Edo Central Campaign Council for the August 16, 2025, bye-election.
It will be difficult for me to market a product I know cannot be bought. Moreover, I strongly believe that we as Esan people, should use the upcoming Senatorial Bye-Election to show strong support for our son, His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, so that he can be encouraged to bring the much-needed dividends of democracy to our people.
I wish the PDP well as I take time out of partisan politics to concentrate on my profession.
Kindly bring this to the notice of all concerned.
Thank you.
ESV Tony Okonigeno MNIVS, RSV, FIMC
