Nigerian actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi has died after passing away in his sleep, according to officials from the actors’ union.
The president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abubakar Yakubu, confirmed the news on Monday, saying the actor died on Sunday.
“He slept and did not wake up,” Mr Yakubu said, adding that the guild is awaiting further details from the family about the circumstances surrounding his death.
He also said Akiyesi’s body has been taken to a mortuary in Abuja.
Akiyesi, who was from Edo State in southern Nigeria, joined Nollywood in the late 1990s and went on to build a career spanning more than two decades.
Known as a reliable character actor and producer, he featured in over 100 films. His work included roles in Marry Who You Love, Kiss My Pain, Deadly Affair and Desperate Ladies.
