Abaribe Dumps ADC for Labour Party Ahead of 2027

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Labour Party (LP).

The move was announced by the Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party in Abia State, Emenike Iroegbu, who confirmed that the lawmaker had officially aligned with the party.

Abaribe’s latest switch adds to a political career known for strategic party changes. He joined the ADC in December 2025 after leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the platform on which he secured re-election in the 2023 polls. His time in the ADC lasted only a few months.

The senator is currently serving his fifth term in the National Assembly. As of the time of the report, Abaribe had not issued a personal statement confirming or denying the defection.

The development comes amid significant realignments in Nigeria’s opposition politics, with several high-profile politicians shifting platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Abaribe’s move to the Labour Party is expected to further strengthen the party’s position in Abia State and the South East region.
