Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has announced that he has instructed his lawyers to withdraw all defamation lawsuits he filed against individuals who accused him of wrongdoing.

Mr Akpabio made the announcement on Thursday while speaking at a New Year church service at Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

He said he had instituted nearly nine court cases against people he believed had defamed and slandered his name but decided to reverse the action after reflecting on a message delivered during the church service.

According to him, the sermon prompted a personal reassessment, leading him to direct his legal team to discontinue the cases.

Among the lawsuits was a ₦200bn defamation case filed in December 2025 against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly.

The legal action followed allegations made by Ms Akpoti-Uduaghan during a television interview, in which she accused the Senate President of sexual harassment. She claimed her challenges in the Senate began after she rejected alleged advances made by Mr Akpabio.

Mr Akpabio has strongly denied the accusations, insisting they are untrue.
