El-Rufai’s Son Defects from APC to ADC, Seeks Re-election

Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The announcement was made on Thursday at plenary by the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas GCON. Bello El-Rufai is now seeking re-election on the ADC platform.

In a statement, the lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Banking Regulations, said he was joined in the defection by two other lawmakers: Hon. Engr. Suleiman Richifa, representing Soba, and Hon. Umar Ajilo, representing Makarfi/Kudan.

“I am now a member of the ADC, and I will be seeking re-election to continue representing the good people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on this platform,” he declared.

The three lawmakers pledged to build “a home for progressive, people-focused service.”

Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, described the move as one taken with “courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best.”

“This decision was not taken lightly,” he said. “As a proud son of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction… To the people of Kaduna North: our work continues, and it will not stop. We will never compromise on delivering quality representation. There is still so much to do.”

The lawmaker also announced plans to roll out a Primary Health Care initiative unveiled last week. He said he would soon constitute an ad hoc committee to equip Primary Health Care Centres with medical supplies, beginning with 1,000 syringes per PHC and other essential items.

“Phase I begins with two centres: Unguwar Sarki Ward and Badarawa/Malali Ward,” he stated.

The defection comes on May 7, 2026, as political realignments continue ahead of future elections.

Bello El-Rufai ended his statement with prayers for divine guidance and better leadership for Nigeria.
