Jonathan Will Be on 2027 Presidential Ballot — Coalition Insists

Supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan have declared that he will contest the 2027 presidential election, insisting he will appear on the ballot despite his cautious public statements.

The Coalition for Jonathan made the assertion on Friday, just 24 hours after Jonathan indicated he would embark on wide consultations over a possible return to the race.

Convener of the coalition, Dr Tom Ohikere, who spoke during an interview on Arise Television, urged Nigerians not to misinterpret Jonathan’s recent comments.

“Goodluck Jonathan must not be misunderstood by Nigerians when he said it’s not a computer game to run for presidency. What he was trying to say is that it’s not an easy thing for somebody to just come up and say he wants to contest for presidency. A lot is involved. It’s a huge process, a very comprehensive process. So, what I want to say is that Jonathan is set to feature on the 2027 election ballot.”

Ohikere added that while Jonathan has not yet formally accepted the proposal from groups pushing for his return, a decision is expected soon.

“He has not yet accepted the proposal from the group seeking his return, but in the fullness of time, possibly within the next one or two days, he is expected to make his position known.”

The coalition convener, who is a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), strongly endorsed Jonathan’s potential comeback.

“As a member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, I am strongly calling for Jonathan’s return.”

The development adds momentum to growing speculation about Jonathan’s political future as the 2027 election cycle gathers pace.
