Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has formally aligned with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), attending the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and obtaining the nomination form to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat.
The development, which occurred yesterday, follows Mohammed’s recent defection to the APM. The NEC meeting, presided over by the party’s National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, was attended by key stakeholders and party leaders.
Speaking at the session, the governor cited the prevailing political atmosphere in Nigeria as a major factor in his decision.
“The current political climate in Nigeria [is] increasingly characterised by undemocratic practices and political intimidation, making political participation difficult for many progressive leaders and movements.”
Mohammed explained that his move to the APM came after “extensive consultations with political associates, stakeholders and supporters across the country.” He added that the party aligns with his vision.
“The party aligns with his political philosophy in the areas of good governance, internal democracy, justice, inclusiveness and respect for the rule of law.”
The governor revealed that several PDP stalwarts from Bauchi State have joined him in the defection, including members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, commissioners, ward executives, party officials, and grassroots supporters.
He pledged his full commitment to the new party: “Mohammed assured the party leadership of his readiness to contribute resources, experience and political support towards the growth and success of the party.”
The governor also officially picked up the nomination form for the Bauchi South Senatorial District ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The move signals a significant realignment in Bauchi State politics as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
