Presidential hopeful under the African Democratic Congress, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has announced he will not participate in the official declaration of the party’s primary election results, raising concerns about the credibility of the process.
In a message shared on his social media platform, Hayatu-Deen stated that reports of widespread manipulation during the voting exercise influenced his decision. He indicated that some of these alleged irregularities were directly observed by him, adding that he is currently consulting on possible next actions.
The party conducted its presidential primaries across wards nationwide on May 25, 2026, using a direct voting method, with millions of registered members said to have taken part.
The race featured notable figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, alongside Hayatu-Deen.
Preliminary outcomes from several states suggested that Atiku was leading in multiple regions, including parts of the North and South-East, fueling expectations that he may secure the party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential election. Meanwhile, Amaechi reportedly claimed victory in Bayelsa State.
This situation unfolds as the ADC positions itself as a significant opposition force ahead of the next general elections, seeking to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
