CALABAR, NIGERIA – The Cross River State Government has called on residents to celebrate the 2026 Eid-El-Kabir festival with moderation in view of prevailing economic challenges confronting Nigerians.

In a press statement issued Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang, the government urged Muslims and other residents of the state to embrace restraint, peaceful coexistence and good conduct during the celebration.

The government specifically appealed to citizens to celebrate “with decorum and tactful moderation in line with the economic realities of the time.”

The statement, signed by Ekpang on behalf of the administration of Governor Bassey Edet Otu, acknowledged the importance of Eid-El-Kabir as a significant Islamic festival symbolising sacrifice, obedience and submission to God.

It noted that the occasion should serve as a reminder for Muslims to emulate the virtues of Prophet Ibrahim through kindness, patience, perseverance and devotion to Allah.

“As we celebrate this special occasion in the Muslim Calendar, government enjoins all Muslims to remember and learn from the life of submissiveness and total allegiance by Prophet Ibrahim, including his good character, kindness and devotion to Allah,” the statement said.

Truth Live News reports that in the statement the government also urged residents to avoid actions capable of disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

“In the same vein, we urge everyone to eschew all forms of uncharitable behaviours that do not represent our esteemed values, character and nature,” the statement added.

The state government further commended what it described as the cordial relationship between Muslims and adherents of other faiths in Cross River, saying the harmony had contributed significantly to peace and stability across the state.

According to the statement, the administration remains appreciative of the support and solidarity shown by the Muslim community under its “People First” agenda.

The government assured residents of its commitment to improving development across different sectors of the state while wishing Muslims a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
